VAE, Inc. is seeking an experienced Software Developer to support a C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) program. This role will design, develop, and automate software solutions in support of mission-critical systems, with an emphasis on Python-based development and Ansible-driven infrastructure automation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to contribute immediately.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and automation tooling primarily in Python
• Build and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles to automate configuration management, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning
• Collaborate with systems engineers, program stakeholders, and government customers to translate mission requirements into working software
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, performance issues, and integration challenges across development and production environments
• Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and follow established software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices
• Support integration efforts across C5ISR systems, ensuring solutions align with program technical and security requirements
• Identify opportunities to improve automation, reliability, and efficiency across supported systems and workflows

• Active Secret clearance required
• An active DOD 8570 certification required
• Strong, hands-on professional experience developing software in Python
• Strong, hands-on experience developing and managing automation with Ansible
• Demonstrated experience across the full software development lifecycle, from design through deployment and support
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote, distributed team environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work directly with technical and government stakeholders

• Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code provisioning software
• Experience working within cyber security or cyber operations environments
• Experience with Elastic (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana / the Elastic Stack)
• Familiarity with C5ISR, DoD, or other federal mission systems
• Based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area a plus but this position would operate 100% remote
